The new items serve 3 main purposes:

1. Patients with, or at-risk of COVID-19 and are self-isolated can access numerous healthcare services via telehealth. They can see any eligible healthcare provider.

2. Vulnerable members of society who are highly susceptible to the virus can also access a range of healthcare services via telehealth.

3.  Practitioners who are isolated due to current COVID-19 infection or risk of infection, can continue to provide certain health services to their patients during the period of their isolation.

Remember, even healthy Australians - not covered by these items - are beginning to work from home, avoid hospitals and waiting rooms, and self isolate due to the fear of catching the virus.

These patients will still need healthcare services as per usual, including new scripts, referrals, mental health treatment, post-op check ins and much more. Healthcare providers must prepare to offer these services remotely.
